Having been given the required dispensation by the authorities, necessitated by its beam of 40m, the Stena Primorsk will, on the afternoon of the 7 June, be towed from Sandhamn and weigh anchor in the evening at Strömmen, alongside the royal palace. The naming ceremony will take place on 9 June, but will be preceded by the ‘Capital Markets’ day at the Hilton. The topics covered will include shipping, oil and the environment. Speakers will be the Concordia Maritime MD, the Stena group’s owner, Dan Sten Olsson, its MD Hans Norén and Dr Martin Stopford, who will speak about maritime economics and global energy supplies. Finally, we will listen to Ms Bianca Jagger, whose work over the last more than 20 years, fighting for human rights, social and economic equality and for a sustainable environment, has taken her all over the world.
The naming ceremony, with Her Majesty the Queen of Sweden as godmother, will start at 14:00. The day will end with a dinner, at which a large number of prominent guests will be entertained by Carola, of Eurovision fame, and Tommy Nilsson.
On the following day, Saturday the 10th, the Stena group’s guest appearance will be rounded off on Skeppsbrokajen, with performances for the general public between 11.00 and 15.00 by, among others, Helena Paparizou, Tommy Nilsson, Markoolio and Jessica Andersson.
It is estimated that Stena Primorsk will sail from Stockholm some time during the afternoon of the 10th.
The Stena Primorsk sails under the Swedish flag and is the third vessel in a planned series of eight P-MAX tankers built at the Brodosplit Shipyard in Croatia. The vessel displaces over 65.000 dwt, is 183m long and has beam of 40m. She is one of the world’s safest and most modern tankers with twin engines, separate engine rooms, twin propellers, twin rudders, twin steering gear and duplicated systems similar to those found in airplanes.
The week’s activities in Stockholm have been arranged primarily by Concordia Maritime, an O-listed company, with Stena Line, Stena Fastigheter, Stena Bulk, Stena RoRo, Stena Metall, Stena Drilling, Stena Finans, Stena Adactum, Stena Teknik and Northern Marine Management – all companies in the Stena group.
