Stena B-MAX

Specially designed for the Baltic Sea

The export of Russian crude oil through the Baltic has increased considerably in recent years. Therefore, we are developing a vessel that will be especially suitable for the safe and economical carriage of crude from ports in the environmentally sensitive Baltic Sea.

The B-MAX (Baltic Max) project aim is to design and build a vessel with unprecedented safety - and at the same time provide competitive freight for the oil companies exporting crude from the Baltic area.

In addition to having mandatory double hulls, the B-MAX will feature double main engines in two completely separate engine rooms, double rudders and steering gear, two propellers and double control systems like that of a commercial aircraft.

60-80% larger cargo
The B-MAX will have a shallow draft. Currently the vessel is being designed for a cargo capacity in the range of 200–250,000 metric tonnes of crude – on the draft of the Danish Straits. This means about 60–80% larger cargo uplift than conventional tonnage operating from the Baltic Sea. By carrying more cargo per voyage, a charterer reduces his cost per barrel moved. Also the total number of vessels trading from the Baltic will be reduced, thus improving safety, environment and economy at the same time.

  • Designed for the Baltic Sea. 209,000 dwt.
  • Length: 307 m. Beam 64 m. Draft: 15 m.
