The Stena P-MAX has numerous features for minimizing the risk of incidents and accidents. The vessels are built with double systems for propulsion and manoeuvring, just like an aircraft.

The Stena P-MAX is based on innovation and performance according to the Stena MAX concept – the world's leading design in safety, flexibility and economy.

Certainly, safety is compatible with low transportation cost. Powerful engines, for example, enable fuel consumption to be low compared to an MR of 47,000 DWT. And when time is valuable, flexibility and the possibility of extra speed mean money saved.

Double hull, strict corrosion control, two engine rooms with fire and water integrity, redundant systems for propulsion are vital safeguards for safety. Add manoeuvrability and an integrated bridge layout to facilitate safe navigation in narrow waters. Sum up with a dedicated and well-trained crew and you have the Stena P-MAX idea.

Crude oil and products
The Stena P-MAX is designed to carry crude oil as well as clean or dirty products. By implementing ETC (Effective Tank Cleaning), a certified effective cleaning system and smooth cargo tanks, changing from dirty to clean products can be achieved in a short time, with minimal risk of contamination. This also means that the tanks can be cleaned quickly.

Green Passport
All the P-MAX tankers built are certified with a so-called Green Passport by the classification society DNV. Green Passport means that all hazardous materials on board the ship are identified and documented. With this certification, which is voluntary, we are acting proactively in the event of future mandatory regulations as well as recommendations relating to ship recycling. The certification is the result of close cooperation with the yard and the classification society DNV.

Superior manoeuvrability

Double propellers and double rudders give the Stena P-MAX better manoeuvrability than any MR/Panamax of conventional design. What this means in terms of safety in confined and heavily trafficked passages is obvious.

Tank configuration

To prevent corrosion and extend fatigue life, the ballast and cargo tanks are long-term protected by epoxy coating. No tank containing cargo, fuel oil or contaminated water is in direct contact with the outer hull. The P-MAX has complete double hull protection.
