The bosun is the foreman for the able-bodied seamen on deck. A job that requires a large amount of know-how, the ability to organize and leadership qualities.

One of Stena's bosuns is Cipriano Lopes. He comes from Praia on the Cape Verde Islands off Africa's west coast and he does his job with the routine and organisational skill of a professional seaman.

–” I've been at sea since 1974. Three years ago I was made a bosun. A job involving a lot of responsibility where you have to be able to juggle with several things at the same time.”
