Stena is making a group-wide sponsor investment in one of Sweden’s largest annual events, Match Cup Sweden. With a new title sponsor, the event is changing its name to Stena Match Cup Sweden.
Stena and Match Cup Sweden have a long history with Stena Line and Stena Bulk having been boat sponsors of the event for many years. The Stena Sphere has now decided to step up and be title sponsor at group level.
“It feels great to be able to sponsor the whole Match Cup Sweden. We have been involved for many years and have experienced in different ways the many opportunities offered by the event. Consequently, we know that this is an excellent event for a group-wide activity by the whole Stena Group. Our goal is to further strengthen relations between our employees, customers and partners and we see Stena Match Cup Sweden as an excellent platform for this”, says Dan Sten Olsson, CEO of Stena AB.
“Stena’s decision to make this investment is extremely gratifying. It’s the best endorsement an event can get when a longstanding partner decides to raise its commitment still further”, says Jan Torstenson, MD of Brandspot, which arranges Stena Match Cup Sweden.
Match Cup Sweden is one of the largest public events in Sweden and one of ten events for men in the World Match Racing Tour. This year, the event will be held in Marstrand between 5 and 11 July and more than 100,000 spectators are expected to follow the races.
“The large crowds attracted to this event and the fact that we are a major employer in the West of Sweden make this an excellent way for employees, customers and partners to meet in relaxed circumstances. Everything that has to do with water, wind and the environment, which is what Stena Match Cup Sweden is all about, is close to our core values”, says Gunnar Blomdahl, MD of Stena Line.
The boat sponsors at the event include PelleP, Castellum and Santa Maria, all of which have chosen to extend their multi-year agreements. Swedish Match is also a longstanding partner. Childhood continues to be the event’s official charity partner with its own boat. Sigma is a new sponsor this year. The newspaper Göteborgs-Posten continues to be the event’s media partner.
